Gordon Graham here with Today’s Tip from Lexipol. Today’s Tip is for fire.

A “regular” physical exam may not adequately address the unique health risks that firefighters face.

And Today’s Tip deals if for firefighters and it deals with making you are getting the right kind of physicals.

Not all physical examinations are created equal. A “regular” physical exam may not adequately address the unique health risks that firefighters face. The I-A-F-C, International Association of Fire Chief’s, and the I-A-F-F, International Association of Firefighters, published a guide called “A Healthcare Provider’s guide to Firefighter Physicals.”

It contains information to help medical professionals screen for specific health risks facing firefighters. Included are recommendations for annual screening that includes cardiovascular health and fitness, cancer, general injuries, behavioral health, lung disease, sleep disorders and infectious diseases.

Print this guide and take it with you to your next physical- especially if you are seeing a doctor who is not well-versed in firefighter physicals.

Make sure you are doing everything you can to help those who are monitoring your health.

And that is Today’s Tip from Lexipol. Gordon Graham, signing off.
