Gordon Graham here with Today’s Tip from Lexipol.

Today’s Tip is for everyone in public safety. A major emergency can happen anywhere and anytime. Regardless of where you are and no matter what you’re doing, if there is a major catastrophe, your agency will be calling you in to work. It could be an earthquake. A hurricane. A flood. A tornado. You get the point.

The time to prepare is now. Talk with your family. Create a plan. Gather necessary supplies.

We all want to believe that we’re prepared for the next big disaster. We’ve been to the training. We understand the policy. And we know what will be expected. But today I want to encourage you to make sure that your family is prepared.

Many of you leave for your shift on a normal day, confident that your family is safe. That they will go about their routines while you’re away. But is your family prepared for a major emergency? Have you taken the steps necessary to help your family be prepared?

The time to prepare is now. Talk with your family. Create a plan. Gather necessary supplies. Make sure they know what to do in an emergency. Make sure they know where to go. For many of us, family comes first. And if your family is not taken care of, you won’t be able to focus on keeping your community safe.

And that’s Today’s Tip from Lexipol. Until next time, Gordon Graham signing off.
